Overview

JWCAR129 is an autologous chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy that targets B-cell maturation antigen (BCMA), a protein highly expressed on the surface of malignant plasma cells in multiple myeloma. The therapy involves collecting a patient's own T cells, genetically engineering them to express a CAR specific for BCMA, and reinfusing them into the patient to mediate targeted cytotoxicity against BCMA-expressing tumor cells. Developed by JW Therapeutics, which was co-founded by Juno Therapeutics and WuXi AppTec, JWCAR129 is based on the same CAR construct as orvacabtagene autoleucel (orvacel), originally developed by Juno Therapeutics. Its primary indication is relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma[1][2][3][4][5][6][7].
