JWH-015 is a **synthetic cannabinoid** from the naphthoylindole family, primarily acting as a **selective agonist of the cannabinoid receptor 2 (CB2)** with significant selectivity over the cannabinoid receptor 1 (CB1), though it also exhibits some CB1 agonist activity. Its CB2 affinity is much higher (13.8 nM) compared to CB1 (383 nM), making it roughly 28 times more selective for CB2. JWH-015 has been used in research to study pain, inflammation, immunomodulation, and metabolic effects. Some studies have demonstrated antinociceptive properties and potential anti-obesity effects in animal models. JWH-015 was developed and named for the chemist John W. Huffman. In the laboratory, it is not approved for medical use and is classified as a controlled substance in several countries[3][5][9].
