Drug intelligence / Profile preview
JWK001 is an adeno-associated virus (AAV)-based gene therapy developed by Jinweike Bio for the treatment of neovascular ophthalmic diseases, including neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD) and diabetic macular edema (DME). The therapy utilizes a proprietary two-plasmid packaging system to deliver a transgene encoding a novel anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) protein directly into retinal cells. This approach aims to achieve sustained expression of the therapeutic protein, thereby suppressing abnormal blood vessel growth and leakage while reducing the burden of frequent intravitreal injections. JWK001 received IND approval from China's NMPA for DME in March 2026 and is currently in clinical development.
