Overview

JWK012 is an investigational gene therapy developed by West China Hospital of Sichuan University for the treatment of treatment-resistant depressive disorder (TRD). The therapy consists of an adeno-associated virus serotype 9 (AAV9) vector encoding transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β), administered as a nasal spray. This approach aims to bypass the blood-brain barrier to deliver the therapeutic gene directly to the central nervous system. JWK012 is specifically being evaluated in patients with TRD who have low plasma levels of TGF-β1, a cytokine implicated in the regulation of neuroinflammation and neuroplasticity, which are often disrupted in depressive disorders.
