JX-970 is an oncolytic virus derived from the Western Reserve strain of vaccinia virus, engineered to express granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF). It has been further modified by deleting the thymidine kinase (TK) and vaccinia growth factor (VGF) genes, which enhances its tumor selectivity and safety profile. In preclinical studies, JX-970 demonstrated significant tumor debulking efficacy with a strong preference for targeting tumor tissues. The expression of GM-CSF is intended to stimulate anti-tumor immune responses in addition to direct oncolysis. The drug is being developed primarily for the treatment of solid tumors[1][4][7].
