Drug intelligence / Profile preview
JY29-1 is a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist peptide biologic developed by Hangzhou Jiuyuan Gene Engineering as a biosimilar to semaglutide. It is specifically indicated for the treatment of obesity and chronic weight management. As a GLP-1 receptor agonist, JY29-1 mimics the action of the endogenous hormone GLP-1, which is released from the gut in response to food intake. The drug works by enhancing glucose-dependent insulin secretion, suppressing glucagon release, and slowing gastric emptying. Additionally, it acts on the central nervous system to increase satiety and reduce hunger, thereby facilitating weight loss. In early 2024, Hangzhou Jiuyuan Gene announced that the New Drug Application (NDA) for JY29-1 was accepted by China's National Medical Products Administration (NMPA), marking it as the first semaglutide biosimilar for weight management to reach the NDA stage in China.
