Drug intelligence / Profile preview
JY29-2 is a semaglutide biosimilar developed by Hangzhou Jiuyuan Gene Engineering Co., Ltd. It is a peptide biologic that acts as a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist. The drug is specifically formulated as a refillable/extended injection for the treatment of obesity and overweight, where it is branded as Jikeqin (吉可亲). By mimicking the action of endogenous GLP-1, JY29-2 stimulates insulin secretion, inhibits glucagon release, and slows gastric emptying, thereby regulating appetite and caloric intake. As of early 2024, the drug has received IND approval in China for weight management and is progressing toward Phase III clinical trials.
