JY401 is a small molecule dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor being developed by Jinyang Pharmaceutical for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. As a DPP-4 inhibitor, it functions by preventing the enzymatic degradation of incretin hormones, specifically glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP). This inhibition leads to increased levels of active incretins, which stimulate insulin secretion from pancreatic beta cells in a glucose-dependent manner and reduce glucagon secretion from alpha cells. These combined effects help lower blood glucose levels and improve glycemic control. The candidate is currently in the preclinical stage of development.
