Overview

JZB05 is a biosimilar candidate of aflibercept (Eylea) developed by Jiangsu Jingze Biopharmaceutical for the treatment of fundus neovascular diseases. As a recombinant fusion protein, it functions as a VEGF trap by combining the extracellular ligand-binding domains of human vascular endothelial growth factor receptors 1 (VEGFR1) and 2 (VEGFR2) with the Fc portion of human IgG1. This structure allows JZB05 to bind with high affinity to VEGF-A, VEGF-B, and placental growth factor (PlGF), effectively preventing these ligands from activating their native receptors on vascular endothelial cells. By inhibiting these pathways, JZB05 suppresses pathological angiogenesis and reduces vascular permeability, which are key drivers of vision loss in conditions such as neovascular (wet) age-related macular degeneration and diabetic macular edema. The drug is currently in late-stage clinical development in China.
