JZB32 is a recombinant human microplasmin (ocriplasmin) derivative being developed by Jiangsu Jingze Biopharmaceutical. As a proteolytic enzyme, it specifically targets and cleaves structural proteins at the vitreoretinal interface, including laminin, fibronectin, and collagen. This action facilitates pharmacological vitreolysis by inducing vitreous liquefaction and separation of the vitreous from the retina. JZB32 is being developed under two regulatory pathways in China: as a biosimilar (Category 3.2) for the treatment of symptomatic vitreomacular adhesion (sVMA) and as an improved biological drug (Category 2.2) for polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy (PCV). In sVMA, it aims to resolve vitreomacular traction non-invasively, while its application in PCV explores its potential to address structural retinal changes associated with complex choroidal vascular disorders.
