Overview

JZP047 is an investigational small molecule prodrug of oxybate (gamma-hydroxybutyrate, GHB) being developed by Jazz Pharmaceuticals for the treatment of sleep disorders, including narcolepsy and idiopathic hypersomnia. As a prodrug, JZP047 is designed to be metabolized in the body to release oxybate, which acts as an agonist at the gamma-aminobutyric acid type B (GABA-B) receptor and the GHB receptor. The development of JZP047 likely aims to optimize the pharmacokinetic profile of oxybate delivery, potentially offering improvements over existing immediate-release formulations that require twice-nightly dosing. It is currently undergoing Phase 1 clinical evaluation to assess its safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetics, including the impact of food on its absorption.
