Overview

K-554 is a selective peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha (PPARα) agonist, also categorized as a selective PPAR alpha modulator (SPPARMα), that was developed by Kowa Company for the treatment of dyslipidemia and hypertriglyceridemia. By activating PPARα, K-554 modulates the expression of genes involved in lipid metabolism, which typically results in the reduction of serum triglycerides and an increase in high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol levels. The compound was investigated in Phase II clinical trials; however, development was ultimately discontinued, likely in favor of Kowa's more potent and highly selective successor, pemafibrate (K-877).
