K-rhein

K-rhein is a tri-potassium salt of rhein, an anthraquinone compound derived from various medicinal herbs such as *Rheum palmatum L.* and *Aloe barbadensis Miller*. It was developed to enhance the poor water solubility of its active component, rhein. K-rhein specifically functions as an inhibitor of CD38 enzymatic activity. Rhein, the active ingredient, exhibits a broad spectrum of pharmacological activities, including anti-inflammatory, anticancer, antidiabetic, hepatoprotective, nephroprotective, antioxidant, and antifibrotic effects. Its mechanism involves modulating various signaling pathways such as NF-κB, PI3K/Akt, MAPK, p53, and HIF-1, and it can induce apoptosis in cancer cells. K-rhein has demonstrated potential in inhibiting glioma progression.
