Overview

K193 is a bispecific T-cell engager (BiTE) designed for the treatment of B-cell malignancies. It simultaneously targets the CD19 antigen, which is widely expressed on the surface of B-cell lineage cells, and the CD3 subunit of the T-cell receptor complex on T cells. By cross-linking these two targets, K193 facilitates the formation of an immunological synapse between cytotoxic T cells and CD19-positive B cells, leading to T-cell activation and the subsequent directed release of perforins and granzymes, which results in the apoptosis of the malignant B cells. Due to its short serum half-life, typical of first-generation BiTE molecules, K193 is administered via continuous intravenous infusion. Developed by Keymed Biosciences (through its subsidiary Beijing Kohnoor Pharmaceutical), the drug is currently undergoing Phase I clinical evaluation in China for patients with relapsed or refractory B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma (B-NHL) and B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL).
