Overview

Kabiramide C is a bioactive marine natural product classified as a trisoxazole macrolide and diterpene lactone. It was originally isolated from nudibranch egg masses and exhibits potent antifungal and antimicrobial activity[3][4]. Kabiramide C acts as a small molecule inhibitor of actin filament dynamics by binding to G-actin at the same site as gelsolin domain 1 and CapG, mimicking the action of actin-capping proteins[5][7][8]. This binding results in severing and capping of the (+) end of F-actin filaments, leading to inhibition of cell motility and cytokinesis. The compound is considered a biomimetic for gelsolin-like actin-binding proteins, making it valuable both as a research tool for studying cytoskeletal regulation and as a potential lead for therapies targeting diseases involving actin cytoskeleton dysfunction[5][7][8].
