Overview

Kadefemin Estriol Ovula is a local hormone therapy developed and marketed by Zeller Medical (formerly Max Zeller Söhne) for the treatment of postmenopausal vaginal complaints caused by estrogen deficiency. Each vaginal ovule contains 0.03 mg of estriol, a naturally occurring female sex hormone that acts as a small molecule estrogen receptor agonist. By binding to estrogen receptors in the vaginal tissue, estriol promotes the regeneration of the vaginal epithelium, improves local blood flow, and restores the physiological pH and microflora. This local action effectively treats symptoms of vulvovaginal atrophy, including vaginal dryness, itching, burning, and pain during sexual intercourse (dyspareunia), with minimal systemic absorption. The product was approved by Swissmedic and was available in trade in Switzerland starting in May 2019.
