Kahweol acetate is a diterpene ester found in coffee beans, particularly in unfiltered coffee. It is a derivative of kahweol and is often studied alongside cafestol. Research indicates that kahweol acetate possesses significant antitumor, anti-inflammatory, and anti-angiogenic properties. In the context of oncology, it has been shown to inhibit the proliferation and migration of various cancer cells, including treatment-resistant prostate cancer and neuroendocrine prostate cancer (NEPC). Its mechanism of action involves the induction of apoptosis through the activation of caspases and PARP cleavage, downregulation of anti-apoptotic proteins like Bcl-2 and Bcl-xL, and suppression of the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) by downregulating transcription factors such as Snail and Slug.
