Overview

Kaixin Jieyu Decoction is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal formula used primarily for the treatment of depression and related mood disorders. It is composed of multiple herbs and has been shown in preclinical studies to exert antidepressant effects by modulating monoamine neurotransmitter levels—specifically serotonin (5-HT) and norepinephrine (NE)—and by regulating the expression of serotonin receptor subtypes 5-HT1A and 5-HT2A in the brain. In animal models, it normalizes behavioral changes associated with depression and restores neurochemical imbalances. The mechanism appears to involve both enhancement of monoaminergic transmission and modulation of serotonergic receptor balance[1][4][5]. The formula is rooted in TCM theory for nourishing the heart, calming the mind, strengthening the spleen, dispelling phlegm, and improving cognitive function[2][3].
