Overview

Kaixin Jieyu Fang (also known as Kaixin Jieyu decoction or granule) is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal formula developed by Guang'anmen Hospital, China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, for the treatment of vascular depression. It is derived from two classic TCM prescriptions, Kaixin San and Sini San, supplemented with Radix Morindae Officinalis. The formula consists of eight Chinese herbs: Radix Ginseng, Radix Bupleuri, Fructus Aurantii Immaturus, Radix Morindae Officinalis, Poria, Radix Polygalae, Radix Paeoniae Rubra, and Radix Glycyrrhizae. Kaixin Jieyu Fang exerts neuroprotective and antidepressant effects by alleviating cerebral white matter damage, regulating the Bcl-2/Bax apoptotic pathway, improving neurovascular unit (NVU) function, enhancing blood-brain barrier (BBB) integrity, and modulating monoamine neurotransmitters and serotonin receptor expression.
