Overview
Kaiyuzhishen Decoction is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal formula developed by researchers at Zhongda Hospital, Southeast University, for the treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD). The decoction is formulated based on TCM principles to address patterns of liver qi stagnation and spirit disturbance, which are commonly associated with mood disorders. In clinical trials, it has been evaluated in interventional parallel-group studies comparing low-dose and high-dose formulations against the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) paroxetine. The primary clinical endpoints for these studies include changes in the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAMD) and Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HAMA) over a 6- to 8-week treatment period, alongside safety assessments for adverse events.
