Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Kalinor is an oral potassium supplement and urinary alkalinizing agent formulated as an effervescent tablet containing potassium citrate, potassium bicarbonate, and citric acid. Upon dissolution in water, these components react to form potassium citrate, delivering potassium and citrate ions. Kalinor is primarily indicated for the treatment and prevention of hypokalemia (particularly in patients with metabolic acidosis, neuromuscular disorders, or cardiac arrhythmias) and for the prevention of recurrent kidney stones (kidney stone metaphylaxis in patients with calcium stones, hypocitraturia, or uric acid calculi). Originally developed by Knoll, the product was acquired by Abbott in 2001 and subsequently by DESMA (a subsidiary of SIT Group) in 2005. It is marketed and distributed in various regions, including Turkey by Farmatek.
