Overview

Kalyanaka Ghrita is a traditional polyherbal Ayurvedic formulation prepared in a base of cow's ghee (ghrita). Developed and manufactured by Kottakkal Arya Vaidya Sala, it is primarily used for the management of psychological and neurological conditions, including anxiety, depression, epilepsy, and cognitive impairment. The formulation contains a complex mixture of approximately 28 herbs that are processed with ghee to enhance the bioavailability of lipid-soluble active constituents. Beyond its traditional use in mental health, research has explored its potential as a chemoprotective and radioprotective agent in cancer therapy, as well as its hepatoprotective properties against liver toxicity. It is believed to work by balancing the Vata and Pitta doshas and providing nourishment to the nervous system and musculoskeletal tissues. In the United States, it is distributed as a dietary supplement.
