Overview
Kamikihito is a traditional Japanese Kampo (herbal) medicine composed of 14 constituent herbs, including Ginseng, Astragalus, and Bupleurum. It is a modification of the Kihito formula, specifically designed to address both physical exhaustion and mental symptoms such as anxiety, insomnia, and neurosis. Manufactured primarily by Tsumura & Co. as TJ-137, it is approved in Japan for conditions including anemia, insomnia, and anxiety. Recent clinical research, such as the KKT-ASTRO trial, has focused on its potential to improve social communication and reduce trait anxiety in adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Its mechanism of action is multi-targeted, involving the modulation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis and the GABAergic system.
