kamishoyosan

Kamishoyosan (TJ-24) is a traditional Japanese Kampo medicine derived from the Chinese herbal formula Jia-Wei-Xiao-Yao-San. It is a fixed combination of ten herbal ingredients: Bupleurum root, Peony root, Atractylodes rhizome, Japanese Angelica root, Poria sclerotium, Gardenia fruit, Moutan bark, Glycyrrhiza root, Ginger rhizome, and Mentha herb. Developed and manufactured primarily by Tsumura & Co., it is widely prescribed in Japan for the treatment of various gynecological and psychological symptoms, particularly those associated with menopause and premenstrual syndrome (PMS). The medicine is thought to exert its therapeutic effects through the synergistic action of its multiple components, which modulate the neuroendocrine system, including GABAergic signaling and the hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian axis. It is regulated as a pharmaceutical product in Japan and is currently being evaluated in clinical trials for its efficacy in improving sleep and functional measures in women with PMS.
