Drug intelligence / Profile preview
KAN-004 is a rationally designed, defined live biotherapeutic product (LBP) being developed by Kanvas Biosciences. It consists of a consortium of over 100 commensal bacterial strains selected from healthy human donors. The product is intended to be administered orally to restore gut microbial composition, metabolic function, and the balance between the microbiome and the immune system. The primary indication is the treatment of immune-related colitis (irColitis), a common and serious side effect of immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) cancer therapy. By resolving irColitis, KAN-004 may allow patients to continue their life-saving cancer treatments. Preclinical studies have shown that it can improve survival and reduce colitis severity in animal models, as well as enhance the efficacy of anti-PD-1 immunotherapy. [2, 8]
