KAN-101 is an investigational drug developed for the treatment of Celiac Disease, a serious autoimmune disorder triggered by gluten ingestion in genetically predisposed individuals. It works by delivering a well-characterized gluten antigen to the liver and immune system using a liver-targeting glycosylation signature. This approach aims to induce antigen-specific immune tolerance by reprogramming immune cells to become tolerant specifically toward gluten, thereby reducing pathogenic T cell responses and expanding regulatory T cell activity. Unlike broad immunosuppressants, KAN-101 targets only the part of the immune system responsible for celiac disease, potentially offering a disease-modifying therapy where none currently exists.
