Kan Jang

Kan Jang is a standardized herbal medicinal product composed of extracts from *Andrographis paniculata* (commonly known as "andrographis") and *Eleutherococcus senticosus* ("Siberian ginseng" or "eleuthero"), sometimes also including *Echinacea purpurea* and *Justicia adhatoda* depending on the formulation. It is primarily used for the relief of symptoms associated with viral respiratory tract infections such as the common cold, influenza, and mild COVID-19. The mechanism of action involves antiviral, immunomodulatory, and anti-inflammatory effects attributed mainly to diterpenoid lactones (andrographolides) from *Andrographis paniculata*. These compounds inhibit inflammatory mediators like NO production and COX-2 expression; they may also modulate immune responses via TLR4/NF-kappaB signaling pathway inhibition. Kan Jang has been shown in clinical studies to reduce symptom severity (sore throat, cough, runny nose), decrease disease progression rates in mild COVID-19 patients compared to placebo, shorten illness duration by about two days versus placebo for colds/flu-like illnesses[1][2][8]. It is registered as a traditional herbal medicine in several countries since 1997.
