Overview
KangBaiyannian decoction (also known as Kang-Bai-Yan-Nian-Tang or KBYNT) is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal decoction developed by the Department of Hematology at the Zhejiang Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine (First Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang Chinese Medical University). It is derived from the classic hospital formula 'Anti-Leukemia Seven-Ingredient Decoction' (抗白血病七味汤) and is primarily used as an adjunctive therapy combined with low-dose chemotherapy for the treatment of acute myeloid leukemia (AML), particularly in elderly patients. Research has shown that active components within the decoction, such as usnic acid, can alleviate resistance to BCL-2 inhibitors (like venetoclax/ABT-199) in AML by activating the integrated stress response (ISR) pathway, promoting the degradation of the anti-apoptotic protein MCL-1, and enhancing the efficacy of chemotherapy.
