Overview
Kanglebao II is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formulation developed by the Beijing University of Chinese Medicine (BUCM) for the treatment and prevention of influenza. It was notably utilized and studied during the 2009 H1N1 pandemic in China. The drug is a multi-herb combination designed to clear heat and detoxify (Qingre Jiedu), a standard therapeutic principle in TCM for viral infections. Mechanistically, Kanglebao II has demonstrated the ability to inhibit influenza virus replication and modulate the host's inflammatory response by reducing the levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-alpha and IL-6. It is typically formulated as an oral liquid or granules and has been used in clinical settings as a hospital preparation.
