Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Karos Gola is a CE-marked medical device in the form of orodispersible lozenges developed by IBSA Farmaceutici Italia. It is indicated for the treatment of inflamed oral and pharyngeal mucosa, providing relief from symptoms such as sore throat, dry cough, difficulty swallowing, pharyngitis, laryngitis, hoarseness, and dysphonia. It is also used as an adjuvant to support re-epithelialization of the mucosa in patients suffering from gastroesophageal reflux or those undergoing radiotherapy of the oral cavity. When dissolved slowly in the mouth, the lozenges interact with saliva to form a protective hydrogel film composed of carbomer and xanthan gum. This film acts as a physical barrier that shields the irritated mucosa from external irritants. Sodium hyaluronate within the formulation retains water to keep the tissues hydrated and facilitate healing, while zinc citrate and vitamin C complete the formulation.
