Karpin Lotion

Karpin Lotion is a topical antifungal and antiseptic formulation developed and marketed by Dey's Medical Stores. It is a fixed-dose combination containing cetrimide, phenol, sodium benzoate, sodium hydroxide, sodium thiosulfate, and tartaric acid. The lotion is primarily indicated for the treatment of superficial fungal skin infections, such as pityriasis versicolor, tinea cruris (jock itch), and ringworm. It works through a multi-action mechanism: sodium thiosulfate and tartaric acid act as keratolytic agents to break down infected keratin and exfoliate diseased skin layers, while cetrimide and phenol provide antiseptic and antimicrobial properties to inhibit fungal and bacterial growth. Sodium benzoate helps maintain an acidic environment unfavorable to fungi, and sodium hydroxide stabilizes the formulation's pH to enhance skin penetration.
