Overview

KarT is an investigational small molecule oral combination prototype being developed by Bristol Myers Squibb. It is a novel formulation within the KarXT (xanomeline-trospium) family, which acts as a first-in-class dual agonist of the M1 and M4 muscarinic acetylcholine receptors. Unlike traditional antipsychotics that primarily target dopamine receptors, KarT aims to treat neuropsychiatric symptoms by modulating cholinergic signaling. The drug is currently being evaluated in Phase 1 pharmacokinetic studies to compare its profile against the reference drug KarXT (marketed as Cobenfy) and other prototypes. Its development is particularly focused on pediatric neuropsychiatry, including the treatment of irritability associated with autism spectrum disorder.
