KAT-003 is a preclinical-stage small molecule anticancer therapeutic developed by NewG Lab Pharma, specifically designed for the treatment of melanoma. It is part of the KoDiscovery Anticancer Technology (KAT) platform, which utilizes the small molecule 3-bromopyruvate (3BP) to target the Warburg Effect—a metabolic phenomenon where cancer cells preferentially undergo aerobic glycolysis even in the presence of oxygen. KAT-003 acts by inhibiting two critical energy production pathways: glycolysis and mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation. By disrupting these metabolic processes, the drug selectively starves cancer cells of ATP, leading to cell death while sparing normal cells that are less dependent on these specific metabolic pathways.
