Overview

Kayvirus DSM 33473 is a specific strain of a bacteriophage from the Kayvirus genus, which are lytic viruses that specifically infect and destroy Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. [8, 10, 12] It was deposited by the Czech company MB PHARMA s.r.o. in the DSMZ culture collection, the German Collection of Microorganisms and Cell Cultures. [6, 11] Kayvirus DSM 33473 is a component of DUOFAG, a two-phage cocktail also containing Pbunavirus DSM 33593, which is being developed by MB PHARMA for the topical treatment of complicated wound infections caused by S. aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. [2, 4, 6, 11] Bacteriophages in the Kayvirus genus are strictly lytic, have a broad host range against S. aureus strains, and are considered promising therapeutic agents. [13, 17]
