Overview

KB-141 is a synthetic small molecule that acts as a selective thyroid hormone receptor beta (TRβ) agonist. It has demonstrated anti-obesity, anti-diabetic, and lipid-lowering effects in preclinical studies. Unlike the major active thyroid hormone T3, KB-141 increases metabolic rate and lowers plasma cholesterol without causing tachycardia. In animal models of obesity and diabetes (such as obese Zucker rats and ob/ob mice), oral administration of KB-141 led to reductions in body weight, adiposity, serum cholesterol, triglycerides, free fatty acids, and improved glucose tolerance and insulin sensitivity—all without increasing heart rate. These properties suggest that selective TRβ activation by agents like KB-141 may be a promising strategy for treating features of metabolic syndrome such as hypercholesterolemia and obesity[1][2][3].
