Overview

KB-G is an experimental small molecule cyclopentenyl pyrimidine derivative under investigation for the treatment of bone metastatic prostate cancer. Developed by researchers at the University of South Florida, it demonstrates anti-tumor activity by inducing apoptosis in prostate cancer cell lines (such as PC-3 and DU-145) and downregulating the production of key cytokines and chemokines, including interleukin-6 (IL-6), interleukin-8 (IL-8), interleukin-18 (IL-18), and C-X-C motif ligand-1 (CXCL-1). These factors are critical for the "vicious cycle" of bone metastasis, where cancer cells interact with osteoblasts and osteoclasts to promote tumor growth and bone destruction. By inhibiting these signaling pathways and enhancing apoptosis, KB-G aims to disrupt the bone microenvironment's support for metastatic progression.
