KB301 is an investigational gene therapy designed to address the underlying biology of aging skin by delivering the human COL3A1 gene, which encodes type III collagen, directly into the skin. The therapy uses a replication-defective, non-integrating HSV-1-based vector to deliver two copies of the COL3A1 transgene via injection. By increasing local production of type III collagen, KB301 aims to improve fine lines, wrinkles, and other signs of skin aging associated with declining collagen levels and extracellular matrix damage. Developed by Krystal Biotech and its aesthetics-focused subsidiary Jeune Aesthetics, KB301 is being evaluated in clinical trials for aesthetic indications such as superficial skin depressions (fine lines/wrinkles), acne keloid scars, hypertrophic scars (cicatrix), and general signs of skin aging.
