Overview

KB371 is an investigational, redosable gene therapy being developed by Krystal Biotech for the treatment of pulmonary fibrosis, specifically focusing on fibrosis resulting from Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS). It utilizes Krystal's proprietary engineered Herpes Simplex Virus type 1 (HSV-1) vector platform to deliver the gene encoding Hepatocyte Growth Factor (HGF) directly to the lungs via inhalation. HGF is a potent anti-fibrotic and regenerative factor that can promote alveolar epithelial cell repair and inhibit the activation of myofibroblasts, potentially reversing or halting the progression of lung scarring. The redosable nature of the HSV-1 platform allows for repeat administration to maintain therapeutic levels of HGF expression without the immune-mediated limitations often associated with other viral vectors.
