KBLP-002

KBLP-002 is a live biotherapeutic product (LBP) being developed by the South Korean company KoBioLabs. It is administered orally and its active ingredient is a proprietary strain of bacterium, KBL693 (*Lactobacillus crispatus* KBL693). [6, 7] The drug is under development for the treatment of allergic immune diseases, specifically asthma and atopic dermatitis. [1, 2, 3] KBLP-002 is believed to work by reducing the degranulation of mast cells, which in turn leads to a lower number of eosinophils in the lungs, providing a therapeutic benefit for asthma. [2] Developed using KoBioLabs' proprietary SMARTiome platform, the drug has completed Phase 1 clinical trials in Australia and the company has been proceeding with Phase 2 trials. [1, 2, 5]
