Overview

KBMD-E is an experimental nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NRTI) analog being investigated for the treatment of bone metastatic prostate cancer (BMPC). Developed by researchers at the University of South Florida, KBMD-E targets oncogenic signaling pathways including Stat3, NFκB, and JNK/c-Jun. It has been shown to induce apoptosis and pyroptosis in prostate cancer cell lines (DU-145 and PC-3) while having minimal effects on normal osteoblasts. Additionally, KBMD-E modulates the cytokine profile in the bone microenvironment by upregulating IL-18 and downregulating IL-8 and IL-6, thereby disrupting metastatic cascades that allow prostate cancer cells to thrive in bone tissue.
