Drug intelligence / Profile preview
KBP-088 is a novel dual amylin and calcitonin receptor agonist (DACRA) peptide developed for the treatment of obesity and type 2 diabetes. It acts as a potent agonist at both the amylin and calcitonin receptors, resulting in prolonged receptor activation compared to other agents such as davalintide. In preclinical studies, KBP-088 demonstrated significant reductions in food intake, sustained weight loss (~15–16% vehicle-corrected), reduced adiposity and adipocyte hypertrophy, improved oral glucose tolerance, and alleviated hyperinsulinemia in high-fat diet-fed rats. These effects are superior to those observed with chronic amylin therapy alone, highlighting the added benefit of calcitonin receptor activation. The drug is being developed by KeyBioscience (a subsidiary of Nordic Bioscience), but as of late 2023 remains at the preclinical development stage for both obesity and type 2 diabetes[1][2][3][4][5].
