Overview

KBP-088A is a peptide-based dual amylin and calcitonin receptor agonist (DACRA) developed as a potential therapy for obesity and type 2 diabetes. DACRAs like KBP-088A are designed to activate both the amylin and calcitonin receptors, leading to reduced food intake, significant weight loss, decreased adiposity, improved oral glucose tolerance, and alleviation of hyperinsulinemia. The mechanism involves prolonged activation of these receptors compared to other amylinomimetics. Preclinical studies in high-fat diet-fed rats have shown that similar compounds (e.g., KBP-088) induce sustained weight loss and improve metabolic parameters superior to chronic amylin therapy alone[2][3][5]. The dose ranges for KBP-088A in animal studies were based on prior research with related DACRAs[7].
