**KCMC-001** is an investigational therapeutic DNA vaccine for drug-resistant pulmonary tuberculosis. It uses hemagglutinating virus of Japan envelope as a delivery vehicle for plasmid DNAs encoding *Mycobacterium tuberculosis* heat shock protein 65 and human interleukin-12. The vaccine is intended to enhance antimycobacterial cellular immunity, including HSP65-specific T-cell responses and interleukin-12-driven type 1 immune activity. In a completed Japanese open-label Phase 1 study in one patient with multidrug-resistant pulmonary tuberculosis, intramuscular administration was associated with decreased sputum bacterial counts, evidence of enhanced immune response to tuberculosis antigens, and no major safety concerns.
