Overview

KD-406 is an investigational inactivated Zika virus vaccine being developed by KM Biologics Co., Ltd. (a member of the Meiji Group). The vaccine is designed to prevent Zika virus infection, a flavivirus primarily transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes that can cause severe congenital abnormalities and neurological complications. KD-406 is produced using purified Zika virus particles that have been chemically inactivated to render them non-replicating while preserving their immunogenicity. As of 2024, the candidate is in Phase 1 clinical development in Japan (jRCT2080224697), where it is being evaluated for safety, tolerability, and immunogenicity in healthy Japanese adults using either a two-dose or three-dose intramuscular regimen.
