Overview

KD-412, commercially known as BOVISUNT AKABANE, is an inactivated veterinary vaccine developed by KM Biologics (a subsidiary of Meiji Holdings) for the prevention of Akabane disease in cattle. Akabane disease is a viral infection transmitted by biting midges (Culicoides) that causes congenital abnormalities, abortions, and stillbirths in ruminants. The vaccine functions by inducing protective immunity and neutralizing antibodies against the Akabane virus, thereby preventing transplacental infection and reproductive failure in cattle populations. It is currently approved and launched for use in Japan.
