KD4002 is an incrementally modified drug (IMD) developed by Kyung Dong Pharmaceutical for the treatment of diabetes. It is a small molecule drug that is a modification or new formulation of the SGLT2 inhibitor dapagliflozin (specifically dapagliflozin propanediol monohydrate). As an SGLT2 inhibitor, KD4002 works by blocking the sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 in the proximal tubules of the kidney, which reduces the reabsorption of filtered glucose and lowers the renal threshold for glucose, resulting in increased urinary glucose excretion. This mechanism helps to lower blood glucose levels in patients with type 2 diabetes. KD4002 has been evaluated in Phase 1 clinical trials to compare its pharmacokinetic properties with existing dapagliflozin formulations.
