Overview
Kedrostis foetidissima extract is a botanical extract derived from the perennial climbing herb *Kedrostis foetidissima* (family Cucurbitaceae), which is native to parts of Africa, India, and Sri Lanka. Traditionally used in folk medicine (such as Siddha medicine) to treat various ailments including measles, asthma, cough, and skin infections, the extract has been investigated for its potential antineoplastic, anti-proliferative, and apoptotic properties. In vitro studies demonstrate that the methanolic extract of *Kedrostis foetidissima* inhibits the growth of breast cancer cell lines (such as MCF-7 and YMB-1) by inducing apoptosis. This apoptotic effect is associated with the downregulation of Retinoblastoma-binding protein 6 (RBBP6) and the upregulation of tumor suppressor p53 and pro-apoptotic Bax genes.
