Kefdensis is a biosimilar of denosumab, a human monoclonal IgG2 antibody that targets the protein RANKL (receptor activator of nuclear factor kappa-B ligand), essential for the formation, function, and survival of osteoclasts—the cell type responsible for bone resorption. By binding to RANKL with high affinity and specificity, denosumab prevents RANKL from interacting with RANK, resulting in reduced osteoclast numbers and bone resorption in both cortical and trabecular bone. Kefdensis is intended for the treatment of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women and men at increased risk of fractures, bone loss associated with hormone ablation in men with prostate cancer at increased risk of fractures, and bone loss due to long-term systemic glucocorticoid therapy in adults[1][5].
