Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Keishi-ka-shakuyaku-daio-to (TJ-134) is a traditional Japanese Kampo medicine composed of six crude drug extracts: peony root, cinnamon bark, jujube, glycyrrhiza, rhubarb, and ginger. It is a pharmacological modification of Keishi-ka-shakuyaku-to, specifically augmented with rhubarb (*Rhei Rhizoma*) to address symptoms involving abdominal pain and constipation. The formulation contains various bioactive compounds, including paeoniflorin, glycyrrhizin, and sennosides. It functions as both an antispasmodic and a stimulant laxative. Clinically, it is used for patients exhibiting abdominal pain with tenesmus and constipation, and it is currently being investigated for the treatment of symptomatic Pneumatosis Cystoides Intestinalis (PCI) due to its potential to reduce intraluminal pressure and facilitate gas expulsion.
