Kemtov

Kemtov is a branded generic antibiotic developed and marketed by the Indonesian pharmaceutical company Triman. It consists of a fixed-dose combination of sulfamethoxazole (400 mg) and trimethoprim (80 mg), a combination collectively known as cotrimoxazole. This small molecule therapeutic is indicated for the treatment of various urinary tract infections, including pyelonephritis, pyelitis, and acute or chronic prostatitis caused by susceptible bacterial strains such as *Escherichia coli*, *Klebsiella*, *Enterobacter*, and *Proteus mirabilis*. The drug exerts its antibacterial effect by synergistically inhibiting two sequential steps in the bacterial folate synthesis pathway: sulfamethoxazole acts as a competitive inhibitor of dihydropteroate synthase, while trimethoprim inhibits dihydrofolate reductase. This dual action effectively blocks the production of tetrahydrofolic acid, an essential precursor for bacterial nucleic acid synthesis.
